
OUR FACILITY
Ascension Athletics, located inside the Igloo Recreational Center, is a gymnastics and tumbling facility over 5,900 sq ft. Our fine facility includes an array of gymnastics and tumbling equipment available for all our students to enjoy. Our preschool students enjoy a dedicated area filled with gymnastics equipment sized just for them. Parents are able to watch their children's progress from the courtesy viewing area outside the gym. Recreational and competitive students alike enjoy an above ground tumble-trak, spring floor, large bar training area, beams of all sizes, and dedicated vault area .

OUR RULES

Student Attire
1. Students are required to have bare feet. Socks, tights, or footed leggings are not allowed as they pose a safety hazard.
2. Jewelry, including watches, rings, necklaces, and large earrings, are not allowed. These can pose an injury risk to the gymnast.
3. We encourage leotards as the acceptable attire for female students, however tight fitted shorts, leggings and shirts are acceptable. Boys should wear shorts or sweats and a t-shirt.
4. Clothing with buttons or zippers is not allowed.
5. Longer hair should be securely pinned back and out of the student's face. Please no bows or clips with metal clasps.
6. We have cubbies for the storage of clothing, shoes, jackets, water bottles.
7. Please supervise children when in the front desk area, waiting for class to begin or watching in the viewing area.
Gymnastics Rules
1. No student is allowed in the gym areas or on any equipment/mats without an instructor present
2. Please be on time. The warm-ups are important to your child’s safety. Warm-up prior to all strenuous gymnastics participation is required.
3. No Horseplay, rough-housing, or fighting of any kind.
4. No running anywhere in the facility unless directed by your instructor.
5. Children must follow the instructions of the instructor for their own safety.
6. Proper gym and social behavior is expected of all students. Please be respectful, polite, and always show good manners. Failure to act in an appropriate and safe manner may result in your removal from class.
7. No glass or glass bottles anywhere in the gym.
8. No chewing gum, food, or drinks in the gymnastics area.
9. Please put your trash into the trash receptacles.

Safety First
1. Safety rules must be followed by anyone entering the gym, including the gymnasts, their parents, siblings, and Ascension Athletics Employees.
2. All parents/guardians with a child in any gym program must sign a Waiver/Release Form before being allowed to participate.
3. NO STREET SHOES in the gym! Please remove shoes before entering the gym floor.
4. Gymnasts need to wear appropriate gymnastics attire- e.g. leotard or shorts and t-shirt for girls, and a t-shirt and shorts for boys. Belt buckles, zippers, snaps, or any other metal clothing accessories may NOT be worn on any apparatus
5. Jewelry is NOT allowed during class.
6. No valuable items should be brought to the gym. We cannot be responsible for lost or stolen items.
7. Gymnasts MUST have their hair tied back away from their face. Nails should be trimmed to prevent the possibility of injury. Please no bows with metal hair clasps
8. Shoes and clothing are to be left in the designated areas.
9. Make sure you have no objects in your pockets while in the gym.
10. Check for proper matting before using any equipment. Check equipment, matting, and apparatus before use.
11. Never dismount off apparatus onto anything but landing mats or crash pads
12. Crash pads, landing mats, and pits increase safety, but will not totally protect from injury. Use common sense and proper learning progressions.
13. Never dive or land on your head/neck on a crash pad/landing mat
14. Before crossing any dismount mat, tumbling strip, floor exercise mat, or any other apparatus mat, look around for other gymnasts. Always yield to gymnasts in the middle of doing skills.
15. Be alert for any physical hazards in the gym area, especially the bar cables.
16. Spotting is to be done by coaches ONLY. No student or parent should be spotting other gymnasts.

TUMBL TRAK RULES
1. No student is permitted on the TUMBL TRAK without a gymnastics instructor present
2. Socked feet are not permitted on the TUMBL TRAK as it may make the bed surface slippery.
3. Never go under the TUMBL TRAK when someone is jumping.
4. Do not store or place boxes/equipment under the TUMBL TRAK.
5. NO horseplay! Reckless behavior and horseplay is NOT allowed.
6. Unless otherwise indicated, there should only be one gymnast/tumbler on the TUMBL TRAK at a time. The carpeted area by the TUMBL TRAK can be used for secondary stations.
7. 4" and 8" mats can be placed on the TUMBL TRAK to soften the bounce.
8. Jumping or tumbling down the TUMBL TRAK should start at the end closet to the wall and finish with the landing mat closet to the spring floor.
9. Keep balls and other toys off TUMBL TRAK
10. Never land headfirst on the TUMBL TRAK as it may cause serious injuries.
11. No bouncing or jumping off the TUMBL TRAK onto the floor or mat, except onto the landing mat at the end which is at the height of the TUMBL TRAK
12. No one is to attempt saltos, back handsprings, or other difficult skills without specific instructor permission or supervision.
Illness & Injuries
1. Advise the coach if you feel ill or have any symptoms if illness.
2. Children on medication which may affect their coordination skills should not be allowed to attend classes. Please advise the coach if your child is on medication.
3. Report any injury, unusual pain or discomfort felt during participation to your coach or instructor immediately.

Safe Sport
Ascension Athletics is committed to providing a caring, friendly, and safe environment for our athletes.

As a member club of USA Gymnastics, Ascension Athletics has adopted the required USA Gymnastics Safe Sport Policy.

Each Staff member, 18 years and older, who has contact with children is required to complete a background check and the SafeSport course provided by USA Gymnastics

Ascension Athletics and its staff acknowledges and expresses the importance of the duty to report sexual misconduct and child abuse to the local authorities and the U.S. Center of SafeSport.

Bullying of any kind is unacceptable in our club and is in violation to Ascension Athletics' Bullying Prevention Policy

Athletes and parents are encouraged to report any acts of bullying directly to their coach and any staff member in the front office. Athletes should feel safe when confiding in any staff member and know that their concerns will be dealt with promptly and discretely.
Every athlete has a right to train and compete in a safe, and positive environment. Ascension Athletics strives to create such environment and foster a culture and atmosphere free from harassment, teasing, bullying, and emotional harm.
